14 Mar 2025 CHANGE CHAPTERS: SHOWCASING NEIGHBOURHOOD CHANGEMAKERS We’ve recently launched Change Chapters – a platform dedicated to showcasing the stories of individuals, groups, and businesses within our neighbourhood who are driving meaningful change. This platform highlights the inspiring efforts of changemakers in areas such as inclusivity, sustainability, and opportunity creation, with the goal of amplifying their impact. One of the inspiring stories is that of Ayanda Cimani, whose journey at the V&A Waterfront began in 2017 as a seal chaser, tasked with guiding seals away from berthed yachts and ensuring they remain within the marine area. Before becoming a Marine Guardian, Ayanda lacked confidence in the water. However, through training, he not only gained the skills needed but is now fully prepared and confident to dive in whenever marine wildlife needs rescuing. Whether freeing seals from entanglements, fishing lines, ropes, or other human pollution, Ayanda plays a critical role in their protection. As a seal monitor at the V&A Waterfront and a member of the Two Oceans Aquarium team, Ayanda is deeply committed to marine wildlife conservation. In 2023, he helped rescue 29 seals from dangerous entanglements and distress situations. Through these narratives, Change Chapters aims to demonstrate the ripple effect of positive actions within our neighbourhood. Read more about these changemakers in our neighbourhood, here.
