This Youth day/Father’s Day join us for 90 minutes of beautiful, high-energy, proudly South African music brought to you by the amazing Join Bands Not Gangs Mentor’s Band, along with one of the best choirs in South Africa, the 35-piece Zolani Youth Choir from Montagu, under the leadership of Mr. Odwa Mvunge.
For the better part of a year, Join Bands Not Gangs have been working on a song called “Wake Up Africa”. The song was sponsored by the SONY GLOBAL JUSTICE FUND, as well as the Department of Culture and Sports (DCAS) and SAMRO and featured close to 70 participants on the song and music video. As a celebration of the launch of the song, as well as Join Bands Not Gangs reaching its seventh year, this show hopes to deliver JOY to the people of Cape Town! For those who love South African flavour music, with some Gospel and Choral music mixed in, this concert is not to be missed!
The concert will start at 16h00 and conclude at 17h30 at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre and is free as always! The line-up includes the fantastic vocals of Shana Ray, Jazz-guitar legend Allou April, JP “Grooves” Stevens on drums, Yvan Potts on keys and composer/music director Karien de Waal, on the bass. Serrano Johnson will also bring his energetic stage presence to the mix on second lead and the backup singers will be from the Friendship Choir.
Together, the band, the singers and Zolani Youth Choir will make for an unforgettable Youth Day at the V&A. As Karien puts it “Whether you’re a tourist or a local, this is the kind of show that everybody can enjoy. Our heart is to make joyful, beautiful and proudly South African music. Because we love our country, our city and our people and we want to share our joy with everyone!”
