The Contours of the Cape

Meet Lalela (Life-Changing Art)

Lalela, an award-winning NPO, provides educational arts for youth from under-resourced communities to spark creative thinking and awaken an entrepreneurial spirit. Since the launch of its arts-education programme (working with low-fee or no-fee schools and other youth development organisations) in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay in 2010, Lalela now reaches across Southern Africa. Art is one of the first subjects to suffer in schools with resourcing challenges. But we believe in the transformative power of the arts to set up children and communities for long-term success and wellbeing.

A story with many layers

Lion’s Head is famous for its incredible views. That’s why we selected a series of original artworks by Lalela participants representing some of the various delights that you can see from its peak.
