Cape Town singer and songwriter Al Petersen, is swiftly becoming one of the most sought after solo artists in the Western Cape. Her music is soulful and comes straight from the heart, and she has an extensive repertoire of cover songs, as well as a growing collection of her own compositions.
Among the artists who inspire her are Michael Jackson, Eva Cassidy, Tracy Chapman and Freddie Mercury – to mention but a few. It is near impossible to categorise Al into any specific genre of music, as she has a very distinctive identity. Many have said that she reminds them of Amy Winehouse; mysterious and soulful at times, bright and energetic the next moment.
Al featured in The Waterfront Winter Issue 2017, the Daily Voice, The People’s Post, etc. Gary Van Dyk, a recognised Cape Town Jazz music connoisseur, “The Tygerburger” reporter and Fine Music Radio presenter, posted a beautiful article on Al on October 6, 2017, and the Cape Times published an extensive article on about Al Petersen.- Catch Al Petersen Live at First Thursday.
