Robben Island Museum/Incarceration Nations Network film event

Incarceration Nations Network (INN), a global network of prison reformers and justice re-imaginers, is hosting an event in Cape Town on November 10 in partnership with the Robben Island Museum about the global crisis of reintegration after prison, which prevents people from thriving and hinders communities from being safe. The event will feature a screening of one episode from Incarceration Nations: A Global Docuseries, INN’s film project, which had its premiere at the renowned Tribeca Film Festival last year.

The event will feature remarks by South Africa’s Minister of Justice and will have an audience of about 250 people. We are also in talks with Uber about having them be a part of the event, as an announcement of their new commitment to justice work globally, in partnership with INN. There will be justice leaders and INN partners from Brazil, Colombia and Jamaica present, as well; the panel discussion will feature global voices on this issue, and a PR company will be hired to ensure a plethora of coverage.

Also participating will be Africa’s only in-person college-in-prison program, The Ubuntu Learning Community at Stellenbosch University, an INN partner.

On the premises will be a trailer decorated in art and words by people in prison around the world, part of INN’s international art project in collaboration with Guggenheim Fellow and renowned African-American artist Hank Willis Thomas, The Writing on the Wall.

The screening and discussion will be followed by a private reception at Harbor House.
