Uncharted waters – Nnenna Samuila’s inspiring story

Inspiring stories of real-life bravery play a heartening role in uplifting and motivating those who may need a little extra encouragement in going after their dreams. Nnenna Samuila from Nigeria has precisely that in mind!

The only woman from Africa to take part this year, Nnenna, an entrepreneur from Lagos, is sailing in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. She chose this unique ocean race in order to do something different, exciting and out-of-the-ordinary. More than anything, she’s on a mission to inspire women back home to swim against the tide and pursue their dreams.

Conceived in 1995 by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, The Clipper is a biennial race that takes paying amateur crews on one or more legs of a circumnavigation of the globe in 11 specially designed identical yachts, all owned by Clipper Ventures. The race has been happening every two years since 1996 and is widely respected as one of the biggest natural challenges and an endurance test like no other!

It was TS Eliot who said, ‘Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.’

With this inspiring thought in mind, we visited Nnenna on board her yacht, The Bermuda, to hear her full story.
